Switched to super hakochou in Shin-Aomori about 3 hours later – this was our third time thru the seikan tunnel so we weren’t paying excited attention and only just noticed the sign to say entered the tunnel, we were to busy looking at the shiny new shinkansen track nearing completion!
(Just opened a bag of butter peanuts and they are crunchier and more peanuty than what we have had at home)
Next train from hakodate was totally packed. We didn’t get our tickets early enough when we arrived at the airport so the train from Hokodate to Tomakomai was booked – and the train from Shin-Aomori was also 15 minutes late into Hakodate – all seats on the 2 unreserved cars were taken and no one was moving into the clear space in the aisles – we couldn’t get on. Train was threatening to leave so i just smashed my way thru with suitcase and all with T in tow. Standing room only for the next 3 hrs 😦 Crammed in the section between cars i could some arrogant guy sitting on his suitcase not letting anyone else pass.
Pretty late in the arvo when we arrived at Tomakomai so we checked into the hotel then headed to the mega donkihote (I guess the two department stores that both look very much closed couldn’t compete with a donki that is so huge)
Bought some random stuff – a couple hats each. Saw some captain Morgan rum 700 ml for $15
Had asked at the hotel about a good Genghis khan restaurant but decided it was a huge walk – and T saw some prices – thought lamb was expensive in Australia 😛
Was getting pretty tired so just smashed down some Lotteria burgers – a new one they have at the moment is ebi sembei burger – I envisioned they just threw a few ebi sembei (curly prawn crackers) on a burger 😛
But seems to be real prawn meat in a crispy coating I think has crushed ebi sembei – quite tasty actually
